The Snizort is the main Salmon river on the Isle of Skye and the Sonas Collection Group own the fishing rights for its entire length.
The river has 12 beats, with the first two including the sea pool being situated within the grounds of the Skeabost House Hotel.
Some of the best holding pools are in the middle section of the river known locally as “the flats” (beats 3 – 7). These beats are only a short drive from the hotel and get most of the angling effort throughout the season.
The character of the river changes as you move on to the upper stretches, with gorge pools and streamy glides to explore for the more adventurous angler (beats 8 to 12).
As the Snizort is a typical highland spate river, it is dependent on rainfall to create favourable fishing conditions.
The best conditions are the days following a heavy downpour, when the river has risen in height. Fish start to rest in the various pools as the spate recedes, temporarily halting their journey to the spawning grounds in the hills of Glenmore.
Sea Trout follow the Salmon up the river and they can provide good sport in lower water conditions on single handed rods. Although they are smaller in stature, they are hard fighting and acrobatic when hooked.
For guests we can supply top of the range Loop rods and a pack lunch can be provided at an extra cost, made by our chefs at the Skeabost House Hotel.
The Salmon & Sea Trout season opens on the 11th of February and concludes on 15th of October, with the first runs of Salmon arriving usually around the end of June.
The peak fishing months are from August through until the end of the season on the 15th of October.
Please note that there is no fishing on a Sunday.
The 5-year average catch return for the river is 70 Salmon and 41 Sea Trout
