River Snizort Opening 2021
It was the very different start to the Salmon fishing season on the Isle of Skye this year.
There was no large gathering enjoying the traditional breakfast at Skeabost Hotel on February 11th, instead a select few, observing socially distanced guidelines braved the extremely cold and icy conditions to mark a low key start of the Salmon season on the River Snizort.
Local Angler Aaron Wynne, who caught the largest salmon on the river in 2020, had the honour of taking the first cast.
The River Snizort is the best Salmon River in Skye, 8 miles of river with 12 beats are owned and managed by Skeabost House Hotel, part of the Sonas Collection, a family run luxury hotel group in Skye owned by Anne Gracie-Gunn.
Danny Docherty, experienced angler and guide, is now employed as full time Ghillie at Skeabost, taking over from previous Ghillie, Derek Dowsett in 2019, who managed Snizort for 15 years. Danny is in charge of managing the River and providing professional advice and guidance to anglers of all experience looking to fish The River Snizort or the many trout Lochs in Skye.
