He will be responsible for managing the group’s three hotels which have captured almost every award it is possible to win in Scotland – Duisdale and Toravaig in the southern peninsula of Sleat and Skeabost, seven miles from the island’s main town of Portree.

German Andreas, 45, was General Manager of the 240 bedroom George Hotel in Edinburgh for five years to 2020, leading two successful re-brands (Principal Hayley to Principal and later to InterContinental Hotels and Resorts) and two major capital expenditure projects totalling £23 million.

Previously he was General Manager of the five star St David’s Hotel and Spa on Cardiff Bay.

Awards for Sonas (the word means happiness in Gaelic) hotels have included Scotland’s Independent Hotel and Group Hotel of the Year, Islands’ Hotel of the Year and Hoteliers of the Year.

Anne Gracie Gunn, who founded the Sonas Collection with her late husband Ken, commented: “Andreas has a remarkable track record of taking two of the finest hotels in the UK to new heights. We are delighted he has agreed to add his experience and expertise to our family-run business on this wonderful island.”

Andreas, originally from Munich, added: “I am looking forward to developing the Sonas Collection  further both commercially and in terms of the customer’s experience of accommodation, food and service. I want each guest to take away long lasting positive impressions, believing we have exceeded their expectations.”
